Software Asset ManagementDigital River Education Services Inc. (JourneyEd.com), long recognized as a leading provider of software and technology products to K-12 schools, colleges and universities, announces the launch of the JourneyEd SAM program. Software Asset Management (SAM) is an integration of policies, processes, people and tools dedicated to the active management of an organization’s software assets. It ensures that every piece of an organization’s software and related licensing is correctly tracked, from procurement to retirement. Organizations are taking a closer look at the software licenses they own and the software that is installed on their networks, in order to manage costs, improve organizational effectiveness and, of course, to ensure - and demonstrate – compliance with all policies, procedures and statutes. Growing awareness of the risks associated with being out of compliance is a primary cause of this heightened scrutiny; however, a shift from viewing software as an expense to treating it as an organizational asset, and a financial investment that should be managed as any other asset, is also a key factor. SAM offers the tools, processes, and training for people to address these concerns. The JourneyEd SAM program, a partnership with experienced consulting firms who specialize in SAM, will provide an inventory of a school’s software licenses and match them to the software installed on the network. The program will also include an assessment of how software assets are currently managed and provide recommendations for implementing SAM practices that are recognized as industry standards. In addition to assurance of licensing compliance, these services will help school IT Departments reduce the costs of managing software, eliminate over-purchasing, ease the planning and rollout of new software and upgrades, and gain tighter control of the software on their network.
