JourneyEd Partners with Microsoft to Inspire Success and Make a DifferenceMicrosoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates unveiled on February 18, 2008, a software giveaway that will ultimately provide millions of college students around the world with access to the latest Microsoft developer and designer tools at no charge to unlock their creative potential and set them on the path to academic and career success. The Microsoft DreamSpark student program makes available, at no charge, a broad range of development and design software for download. The program is now available to more than 35 million college students in Belgium, China, Finland, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S. Broad global coverage, potentially reaching up to 1 billion students worldwide, will continue throughout the next year. "We want to do everything we can to equip a new generation of technology leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to harness the magic of software to improve lives, solve problems and catalyze economic growth," Bill Gates said. "Microsoft DreamSpark provides professional-level tools that we hope will inspire students to explore the power of software and encourage them to forge the next wave of software-driven breakthroughs."
Priming the Talent Pipeline
Microsoft has partnered with JourneyEd to verify U.S. students at schools throughout the country. JourneyEd helps students through a simple verification process, making the experience identical to an online purchase, but costs the student nothing. At the end of the process, students receive an email with their personal verification link back to DreamSpark. Verifying the current academic status of would-be student buyers is a core competency of JourneyEd. The educational marketplace is unique in that academic versions of software are sold at a deep discount, even though they are typically identical to the full price commercial versions. In order to protect their margins, it is imperative that software vendors ensure that these deeply discounted products are sold only to qualified students, faculty/staff and educational institutions. JourneyEd is the leader in the business of verifying academic buyers and a preferred software marketer for the largest application software companies, including Adobe, Autodesk, Avid, Corel, Google, Microsoft, PTC, and Solidworks.
